Bronze medal winners and the Chris Haywood Shield returns to Stanmore

The Newington team have come out victorious and demonstrated that they were the 2nd strongest team in the Trans Tasman competition for 2014.  The boys defeated Sacred Heart College confidently by starting the game strong and keeping up the intensity all the way through.  From  4-1 at the end of the first quarter through to 10-7 at the final whistle the boys never let that margin drop. All boys got time in the water which is a credit to both Mr Moar and the whole team.

The win captured the Chris Hayward Shield which is a perpetual trophy which goes on the line each time Newington and Sacred Heart meet.
A tremendous effort and we’re all very proud.  Well done boys!

The final medal match, which was played directly after, went to Rangitoto 11 against Auckland Grammar 4.  Considering the boys beat Auckland Grammar 10-8 when they played them in the rounds and only conceded 6 goals against Rangitoto in the semis it is pretty clear that Newington were really the 2nd strongest team in the competition and the boys know that.

A tremendous effort and we’re all very proud.  Well done boys!
