An early morning start in pouring rain at 6:30am was how the boys started their Sunday on the Trans Tasman tour. The reason for the early start was our final round game against Kings Auckland. The boys were at the pool early and demonstrated a resilience not yet seen as they jumped in to play for a convincing win 14-5.
However, as a result of Auckland Grammar beating Wellington combined 10-8 the previous evening, and our draw against Sacred Heart, Newington finished second in Pool B. With this the boys now have a preliminary semi-final against the winners of Scots Blue vs St Aloysious at 12:30pm. Here is a look at the final table and rankings from Pool B, the final column is a revised rank due to the fact that combined school teams cannot progress to the finals, a bummer for Wellington.
The winner of the next game will then face Rangitoto at 6.30pm in the first championship semi-final. Bring it on they say.
